Hiato(s): who are my ancestors? June 2024, mute BODY, Pilotenkueche International Art Programme – Local Artist Grant, Leipzig (Germany)
This work is an ongoing artistic research project that began in 2022. I delve into identity, cultural identification, and their complexities, focusing on Portuguese colonial history and its long-lasting impacts. The aim is to examine the gaps (hiatus and hiato in Portuguese), omitted narratives, and silenced voices from various perspectives, to critically reflect on the ongoing global coloniality through a decolonial and collaborative approach.
Hiato(s) deals with autobiographical data, research, and investigating difficult histories in shared worlds. As a whole, Hiato(s) is an individual and collective exercise in learning, unlearning, and relearning.
